This year You invested $189,000 in 28 different human service agencies across Missaukee and Wexford Counties.
"Your partnership with United Way provided funds for a gasoline voucher that helped our client travel to her doctor. You also helped prevent her electricity from being shut off. She is now on the road to a full recovery; she's back at work and recently received a promotion."
In 2012/13 United Way received contributions from over 1,170 caring individuals through the Workplace and Residential Campaigns, along with 46 Corporate Gifts.
"My senior companion is such a blessing, I appreciate her uplifting spirit. We are forming a nice friendship and this has added much joy to my life along with filling a need. Thank you, thank you, and thank you."
United Way sponsored four very successful Special Events throughout the year that raised over $25,000. Employees themselves in both counties got in the action as well raising $7,000 through 11 workplace special events.
"Students enrolled in the Teen Impact program went from being "at risk" youth to being peer leaders with the confidence to take control of their lives. They look forward to achieving their potential in their chosen life path."
The 2-1-1 Information Referral System provides telephone access to a live call specialist who will assist the caller with targeted information. From assistance to pay for utilities to finding work... from city to youth services. The 2-1-1 system maintains a comprehensive database to answer many types of questions. This program in an initiative of United Way World Wide and your local United Way, in cooperation with many public and human service organizations across Missaukee and Wexford Counties. Funding for 2-1-1 included $16,566 from community sponsors and $13,434 from our local United Way (total: $30,000). The 2-1-1 system has served both counties for over five years. This spring, the last remaining hurdle will be mounted when the three-digit phone number becomes fully functional. Goals for the future include sustainable funding, community education, and continuous updating of services in the system.
